How Do I Become a Member of the American Legion Auxiliary?

Q: - I am related to someone who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibilty dates. Can I join the Auxiliary of The American Legion?

A: - If you are the grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, granddaughter or great-grandduaghter of an individual who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibility periods whose dates are shown below and is now a member of The American Legion, you may join the American Legion Auxiliary of The American Legion; step-relatives also qualify  If you are the individual who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibility dates, you may join the American Legion Auxiliary of The American Legion.

Q: - My relative, who served on active duty during one of the eligibility periods,  has died and I do not know if he was a member of The American Legion   Can I  jion the Auxiliary of The American Legion?

A: - If the qualifying veteran is deceased, you may join the appropriate organization, even if the qualifying veteran was not a member of The American Legion when living.  You must, however, provide documantation of that individuals'service during a qualifying period.

Q: - What are the dates of the eligibility periods?

A: - World War I  -  Apr. 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918;  World War II  -  Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946  (Dec. 7, 1941 to Aug. 15, 1945 for Mercahnt Marine); Korea  -  Jun. 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955; Vietnam  -  Feb. 26, 1961 to May 7, 1975; Grenada-Lebanon  -  Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984; Panama  -  Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990; SW Asia (War on Terrorism)  - Aug.2 1990 to a date to be determined.
